MupiroNasal 20 mg/g nasal ointment nasal, manufactured by Balkanpharma-Razgrad AD, is a medicinal product containing the active substance mupirocin, as mupirocin calcium, intended for use in the nose.
Mupirocin is an antibacterial agent for topical use and a medicinal agent of choice for elimination of Staphylococci, incl. methicillin-resistant strains of S. aureus (MRSA) in the nose.
Mupirocin is active against most microorganisms, causing skin bacterial infections - furuncles, impetigo, open wounds and others.
Mupirocin is suitable for preoperative elimination of nasal carriage of S. aureus in patients in intensive care units, patients undergoing cardio-thoracic surgical intervention, patients of abdominal surgery, patients undergoing orthopaedic surgical intervention, e.g. joint arthroplasty, patients of neurosurgery, patients of eye surgery, patients undergoing haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, for reducing S. aureus colonisation in HIV-positive patients.
As a result of its specific mode of action and unique chemical structure, mupirocin shows no cross-resistance with other antibiotics, and the risk for development of resistant bacteria is low, when using the product in accordance with its therapeutic indications.
